Digital Transformation – implementing the next steps

Birgitta Schock is a long-term member and supporter of acumen7. We were lucky to hear from her at our November Monthly Meeting.

Birgitta is currently leading on a digital transformation process for the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich that encompasses and promotes a human centric approach as a crucial element to ensure digital transformation success.

She is a Partner of the new BildDich.ch network – a network of professionals for professionals providing trainee and support to the construction and real estate industry.

Birgitta gave us an engaging and interactive talk, and acumen7 members responded well to her request for feedback on implementing the next steps.

It was great to see how much discussion the presentation generated. Members are encouraged to contact Birgitta directly to continue discussions.

The Design Lab Workshop

Thank you to The Design Lab’s Kevin Davies, Marina Jones & Gaby Frylinck for hosting the stimulating and fun interactive workshop at our first in-person meeting since May. The workshop focussed on websites, good & bad user experiences and the interactive session involved defining personas for acumen7 with a view to driving more traffic to our website.

What did acumen7 do for me?

Mark Bew is a longstanding member of acumen7 and CEO of Cohesive, an international digital integrator delivering transformational outcomes across the built and natural environment.

Mark gave us a fascinating presentation about the advantages of being a member of acumen7, how that has helped him on his journey from running his own business to the merger with Cohesive, which has developed the first truly integrated approach for the management of critical assets and services.

Moving from the Productivity Puzzle to the Productivity Conversation

Long-standing acumen7 member Peter Dixon was February’s second presenter. Peter explained that a ‘productivity puzzle’ has arisen from the way issues have been formulated for decades. The economists say productivity drives growth, whereas the strategists say growth drives productivity. Reformulating the issue opens up opportunities for valuable discussions and enables a productivity conversation to replace the productivity puzzle. Peter also illustrated why manufacturing really matters and how manufacturing sectors form the physical linkages between economies. The informative session included an overview of experience curves and how long term competitor performance is driven by comparative performance relative to economy averages.

Disruptive Technology Update

At acumen7’s February meeting, Darya Bahram shared a fascinating insight from a PwC survey revealing 69% of CEOs agree that emerging technologies will disrupt their business over the next few years. Darya, Secretary General of the Association of Consultant Architects, then gave the assembled members an enlightening overview of just what that will entail, covering Building Information Modelling (BIM), Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), Blockchain, Smart Contracts, FinTech, RegTech and InsurTech. The advantages of this automation include higher accuracy, uniform quality, increased productivity, reduced costs and the ability to avoid potential risks.

Reinventing yourself, your leadership style and the leadership agenda

Following on from its first successful Seminar on The Future of Work in July 2019, acumen7’s second seminar in September 2021 featured five presenters. The first was Alan Watkins, CEO of Complete – a data-driven leadership development consultancy. Alan is also an author and global thought leader on human performance, complexity and well-being. He spoke about how to reinvent yourself, your leadership style and the leadership agenda. With the accelerating pace of change, this allows you to go further, faster. Alan also demonstrated how organisational network analysis can reveal profound insights into how companies function.
